Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby is Not the Goal, it’s the Minimum

Healthy mom healthy baby is not the goal.

Empowered, supported, happy mom and baby is the goal.

1 in 3 women describe their own birth as traumatic. There can be a lot of trauma surrounding birth! Someone responding to a traumatic birth story with “well, at least you and baby are healthy” or, worse, a doctor who runs their practice with the motto “healthy mom and healthy baby is the goal” is missing the whole point.

More moms should be welcoming their newborns into the world with feelings of empowerment, support, and blissful joy. These feelings prepare them and allow them to feel ready for the (sometimes difficult) journey of new motherhood ahead.

“Healthy mom, healthy baby” should be the minimum. Empowered, supported, happy mom and baby should ALWAYS be the goal. We should be exhaust all of our options before letting the goal slip to just “healthy mom, healthy baby”.
