Induced Labor is NOT the Same as Spontaneous Labor
It's time to discuss this common myth in childbirth
Ones that providers (especially OB's) will tell women all the time
And even pressure them to believe it.
Can you guess it?
That induced labor is the same as spontaneous labor
Don't believe this! It's simply not true.
Why? I'm glad you asked....
Induced labor is more painful because your contractions are being caused by synthetic Pitocin instead of natural Oxytocin.
The difference between Pitocin and Oxytocin is huge.
Oxytocin stimulates feelings of love, and pain relieving endorphins.
Pitocin does not cross the blood brain barrier so it does not give you those benefits, just the contractions.
This causes induced labor to be more painful than spontaneous labor.
With Pitocin induced contractions you are also more likely to want and need more medical intervention in your birth- like and epidural, assisted delivery, or cesarean.
Is there a place for inductions in childbirth? Yes, of course! If you (the birthing woman) want one!
Is there anything wrong with getting induced? No way!
Can you be induced and have an otherwise unmedicated delivery? Absolutely!
But it's not going to be the same as spontaneous labor.
